What is
Helpful Content System?

A Google ranking system that demotes pages written primarily for SEO rather than humans.

Definition

Google's Helpful Content System (now part of core ranking) detects content that exists to manipulate search rather than help users. AI-generated thin content, spammy comparison pages, and over-optimized doorway pages are common targets. The fix is unique value per page — exactly what programmatic SEO must achieve.

Example

A site of 1,000 nearly-identical city pages with swapped names was demoted in 2024; sites with genuinely localized data were not.
