What is
Cohort Analysis?

Tracking groups of users (cohorts) over time to measure retention, behavior, and lifetime value.

Definition

Cohort analysis groups users by a shared attribute — most often signup week or month — and tracks them over time. Patterns invisible in aggregate become obvious in cohorts: improving retention curves, decaying activation, channel-specific behavior. Cohort retention curves are the single best indicator of PMF.

Example

A SaaS shows that the Q3 cohort retains 85% at month 3 vs the Q1 cohort's 60% — a real improvement signal.
